In this episode of #MakersTV I talk about the most beneficial thing you can do for your business from the very beginning to ensure you can scale and be successful.

In this episode I talk about putting systems and processes in place to save you time, money and effort, and make hiring someone super easy once you’re ready to outsource. We delve into the final core strength of your business which is operations.

Operations encompasses things like managing your money, income, outgoing expenses, insurances, licenses, and making sure you are up to date with your tax requirements. It also includes documenting the systems and processes you use in your business. If you have systems and processes in place, it really saves you time. When you decide to outsource people, it makes it easier to train them well given the systems and processes you have set from the beginning. So at any time, you can step away from your business for whatever reason and your team can step in and run your business the way you want it to be run.

Like any other business, systems and procedure are in place to keep things in order. A compilation of all your training guide or videos and systems for each aspect of your business should be documented in an asset register. From there, it should also link to individual training demo or instructions which you can use when you do start to outsource people.

I also have an asset register for my business and an example I show in the video is my blog posting guidelines. It is located within my asset register which my team can refer to so that everyone is on the same page and following the same instructions.

In recording my training, I use Loom. It is a free online screen capture and recording service that has been very helpful to my business and is really easy to use. Once I finish recording, I send a link of the video to my team members and this is documented in my asset register for future reference. I also use Trello boards for my Standard Operating Procedures. It makes total sense to my business and it makes everything more organized.

When you’re asset register is set up, you can update the document as you learn more about your brand and business. You will end up with a very comprehensive document which you can hand over to someone else when you need to set aside time for yourself. You will be so much better off if you start your business by laying out your own systems and procedures and documenting it for future use.

So that’s it for now! If you think you still need help in creating your systems and procedures for your business, you could consider joining the Maker’s Academy which is a membership for makers and creatives such as yourself wanting to learn how to sell your stuff so you can replace your 9-5 job with something you are more excited about. I am here to help you and make things easier.

Til the next episode!

CAN YOU CONFIDENTLY SAY YOU ARE WORKING ON THE RIGHT THING, RIGHT NOW IN YOUR BUSINESS?

Sometimes, even when we are doing all the right things, it can feel like we’re spinning our wheels and not moving forward at all. This could be because you’re focusing on the wrong area of your business – or doing all the right things, but at the wrong time.
